ARISE, SHINE...When We Rise Up HE Shines Through Slideshow

"Arise, shine; for your light has come!"  Isaiah 60:1

Andre Crouch wrote a worship song years ago that began “How can I say thanks for the things You have done for me?” and as the Baptist World Alliance Women’s Department (BWA WD) farewells Patsy Davis, its Director for seventeen years, that question echoes again in our hearts - “How can we say thanks for the many years you have served God and the BWA WD so faithfully?”

As I pen these lines, the word “different” comes to mind. Patsy has worked so faithfully for her Lord across different cultures, in different languages, with different leaders and with vastly different women, each with their own very different personalities. Across the vast canvas of the BWA WD, Patsy has led and inspired and encouraged and supported hundreds of thousands of very different women to paint a picture of the oneness and unity these women        Patsy Davis Retires                have in Jesus Christ.

With an unswerving commitment to the different needs of women around the world, Patsy has led with an energy and a passion that has encouraged and enthused those who have worked with her on the different mission trips to various countries. From the metropolis of Washington, D.C., to the refugee camp of Mae La, on the Myanmar/Thai border, indeed on almost every continent, Baptist women’s unity was highlighted, fellowship and gifts distributed, and needs met as women gathered under the banner of the BWA WD.

Those seventeen years of Patsy’s service have also seen different technologies and business methods come to the fore as both the world and God’s ministry styles stepped into the 21st Century. Again Patsy has been the driving force to ensure that the BWA WD has kept pace with those changes through the development of the web page and internet resources, including Facebook. At the same time, she has ensured that women from different eras and different generations, all with different attitudes and tastes, continue to know and understand that they are an integral part of the wonderful sisterhood of Baptist women around the world.

I know there have been numerous different obstacles and problems as well as countless different joys and blessings, but Patsy has continued to serve, not out of a sense of duty or obligation, but from a well of joy and delight in the work and a deep love for her Lord Jesus Christ. She has been the driving force behind the World Day of Prayer material now being published and distributed to so many different countries, languages and cultures, and I know it has gladdened her heart to see the continuing growth and strength of the power of the united, faithful prayer of Baptist women.

From her first experience of the Women’s Leadership Conference and the World Congress in Melbourne, Australia, to the recent successful Women’s Conference and Congress in Durban, South Africa, Patsy has been the motivation behind the organization and coordination of the Women’s Conferences that have seen both current leaders and developing leaders brought together from widely different walks of life. She has encouraged the support of scholarships and funding of projects that have enabled women from developing countries to attend these conferences, to learn, to network, and to develop their own ministries as God would lead them.

Patsy has exemplified the mission of the BWA Women’s Department, which is “to encourage and celebrate unity in Christ among Baptist women around the world and work towards peace, reconciliation, justice and development through prayer, witness and service.” As she steps down from the role of Director of the BWA WD and on into the next field of ministry that God has for her, I know she will continue to model the words of 1 Corinthians 15:58, “… Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Our heart-felt thanks from Baptist Women around the world - “Well done, good and faithful servant."
